It is with great honour that the Sri Lankan Association of Geneva (Association) informs you that the Executive Committee of the Association (EXCO) for the year 2016/2017 was appointed by the members, at the Annual General Assembly held on 23 April 2016.

The duly elected members of the Executive Committee (unanimously elected) is as follows.

We take this opportunity to sincerely thank the members of the previous Executive committee for their invaluable dedication towards the activities of  the Association during the last two years.

The success of any organization depends on the active participation of the membership. SLAG has been serving as the leading social and cultural forum for the Sri Lankan community in Geneva and its environs for over three decades. However, in the recent past we have seen the reluctance of members to come forward and assume office and to drive the association forward. Everybody expects somebody to do the job but we cannot continue in this manner for ever. It was under these circumstances, that I was compelled to take over the post of President for this year. It was purely because I feared that if no one came forward to guide the destinies of SLAG, that we might well see the end of our Association. I am sure no member of our Association past and present would dream of a situation of like this. Hence, on the insistence of those present at the AGM, I came forward to take over this mandate and to ensure its existence.

I know it is not an ‘easy job’ if I do not get your support. Especially, after my predecessor in office out- going President Mr. Surein Peiris and the outgoing EXCO have done a wonderful job in the past 2 years, I am mindful that we must keep up the same momentum in our activities. However, being the Secretary for many years, me and the newly elected EXCO are confident to deliver the ‘goods’. But I need your help and support!

Therefore, the new EXCO earnestly look forward to your participation in all cultural, social and charitable events organized by the Association this year.

The ‘membership drive’ that we began two years before produced positive results somewhat but we will continue in the same vein this year too. It is in this light, that we call upon all Sri Lankans in Switzerland and the environs to join our Association. Whilst your support in introducing new members would strengthen the Association we would kindly remind those members of our Association ( SLAG) who have not paid their subscriptions for this year to do so at your earliest.
